Keeping kids busy while you work
With the rising cost of gas these days, many people are doing what they can to work from home. Whether starting their own home business, telecommuting, or going freelance, folks are working from home more than ever. One of the challenges of a home office is being able to concentrate amid many distractions. If you have young children at home, your distractions are many. Following are a few ideas to keep your kids busy while you get things done. 1. When the hat is on - mom or dad is not to be disturbed. Teach your kids that when you have a hat on, you are either on an important call, or need to have uninterrupted time to work. 2. Give your kids a task. Kids as young as two can empty your office trash can, erase your white board, dust off your monitor, etc. Older kids can open and sort your mail, staple your newsletters, makes copies, etc. 3. Let your younger kids wear a hat too. It will make them feel important if they know they can't be disturbed when emptying your trash can! 4. Have plenty of coloring books, decks of cards, puzzles, picture books on hand that you can dip into when you get a call. 5. Reward your kids at the end of a busy time by fixing them a special treat, or playing a fun game with them. If they know there's something good at the end of their "quiet time," they'll start to look forward to it!
